Kalsi Legal Aid · Other cases we take

Immigration detention and bail on legal aid.

Bail applications and challenges to detention for people held under immigration powers, funded by legal aid where you qualify.

Why it matters

Before you start

If someone is detained, tell us on the form: their name as the Home Office has it, their Home Office reference if known, where they are held, and any removal date.

Detention can come without warning, and removal can follow quickly. Every day without advice is a day of options lost.

Who this is for

Is this you?

People held in an immigration removal centre or under immigration powers in prison; and family, friends and detention visitors acting for them.

What we do

How we help

We advise on the reasons for detention, apply for bail to the Home Office or the First-tier Tribunal with a release address and conditions in place, and act on the person's underlying case, such as asylum or a fresh claim.

Legal aid

Is it covered by legal aid?

Advice and representation on bail and detention are covered, subject to the tests. Who qualifies

On legal aid cases, we will never ask you for money. What you tell us stays confidential; we never share your story without your consent, except where the law requires it.

Questions

Common questions

Can I apply for someone else?

Yes. Fill in the form for them; we then speak to them directly.

Do they need an address to get bail?

An address helps a bail application. Tell us if there is one, or if they need help finding one.

There is a removal date. What now?

Say so at the top of the form, with the date.

“Detention is not the end of the case. People are released on bail and carry on their claim from the community.”

Free help. Full effort.

Tell us what is happening. We check legal aid first and tell you plainly.
